Roof Shoveling & Ice Dam Removal in NH & MA
When snow piles up or ice dams form along the eaves, we clear it before it causes leaks or puts too much weight on the roof. We remove ice dams with low-pressure steam, which is safe on shingles: no chipping and no salt.
Last winter we handled 23 roof shoveling and ice dam jobs, most of them in February, from Bedford and Merrimack to Concord and the Seacoast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most roof shoveling and ice dam jobs we did last winter cost $1,500 to $2,000, and the typical job was about $1,500, based on 23 jobs. Large roofs, steep pitches and thick ice take longer and cost more. We give you a price before we start.
Chipping ice with hammers or picks can crack and tear shingles, and salt or chemical melts can damage shingles, metal, gutters and plants. Low-pressure steam cuts through the ice without harming the roof.
Call us after a heavy or wet snowfall, when rain falls on top of deep snow, or when you see ice dams and large icicles building at the eaves. Flat and low-slope roofs, porches and additions are most at risk.
Heat escaping into the attic melts snow on the roof. The water runs down to the cold eaves and refreezes into a ridge of ice, and more meltwater backs up behind it and under the shingles. Attic ventilation and air sealing help, and ice and water shield along the eaves keeps backed-up water out.
Yes. Once the ice is off, we find where water got in and repair the shingles, flashing or decking. See our roof repair page.

Preventing Ice Dams Long Term
The roof side of the fix is ice and water shield along the eaves and in the valleys, plus balanced intake and ridge ventilation so the roof deck stays cold. Every roof we replace gets both. Attic insulation and air sealing do the rest.

Fixing the Cause
Removing ice solves this winter’s problem. If ice dams come back every year, the roof is telling you something: heat is escaping into the attic, the ventilation is not working, or there is no ice and water shield at the eaves. When it is time for a new roof, we fix the roof side of that with full ice and water shield and proper ventilation.
